On Wednesday, October 4th The Eagles played their best match of the year. While the result was not favorable, we saw an overall improved team effort. The return of fall weather certainly helped keep our players cooler and more energetic throughout the game. Max Strober assisted on one of Nick Stauble’s three goals and kept the pressure on the Sherman defense all afternoon. Matt Berman did another outstanding job as the MBS sweeper by deflecting many shots away from our goalies, as well as running hard after every loose ball. Not only did Zack Lowenberg play a strong keeper for the first half of the game, but he also scored his first goal of the season when he switched positions to play the field. Sherman School ultimately won the game with a score of 8 to 4. We look forward to a rematch with Glenholme School on 10/18/17.
The away soccer game on 10/11/17 at Oakwood Friends has been cancelled. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at 845-373-9511. Thank you!
September 27th, 2017: The MBS girls’ field hockey team traveled to Dutchess Day School for an away game. It was very warm and sunny which lead to both teams’ goalies being pulled after the first quarter due to the extreme heat. Maplebrook’s sweeper, Maya Treisman, rose up to the challenge and covered the goal. Sophia Moubayed, who is also a member of the Maplebrook soccer team, had a couple of long break-aways down the field. Malu Dorley and Jillian Mularchuk were powerhouses in the midfield and managed to push their way through the rough crowds of players. All of our players stayed in for the majority of the game and even covered multiple zones when playing down a player. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of our players for the effort and ferocity they exhibited. Overall, we are blown away from the vast improvements made by each player considering this is a new sport for many of them. The final score was 4-0 in favor of Dutchess Day but the Maplebrook girls fought to the very end. Great job, girls!
September 26th, 2017: Rumsey Hall came out on fire and scored four early goals against the Eagles. Improved play from our forwards Max Strober and Gioia Taraboulsi led to Nick Stauble being able to score both of our goals. Our defense improved as the game progressed due to some very strong play by our two senior defenders, Matt Berman and Suarabhya Sankett . We will continue to work on our spacing and positioning in practice this week as we look ahead to prepare for our next game against Sherman School on Oct 4th.
On Saturday, September 23rd The Eagles fell to Woodhall School after and well played, competitive match. After falling behind with a score of 2 to 0 early on in the match, Maplebrook battled back to a 6 to 5 lead with only 15 minutes left on the clock. Unfortunately, Woodhall finished strong by scoring three goals in the remaining time. Although Woodhall ultimately won the match, Maplebrook showed some great team spirit and strong play. Nick Stauble played another great game and notched all six of the Eagles goals. We saw some outstanding midfield play from Ethan Chrystal and Rani Gaston while Anna Sudderth held down the fort on defense. Great Job, Eagles!
