Halloween Comes to the Burnett Internet Cafe
Just before Parents' Weekend, the Burnett Internet Cafe opened its doors for students in both the high school and postsecondary programs. The Cafe is named in honor of David Burnett, Class of 2011.
Students love the new space which is adorned with some beautiful artwork on loan from Mr. TeeJay Jones and includes pedestal tables for catching up on email, Facebook and internet browsing as well as a snack bar and stools. While watching their favorite Netflix movies or television shows on the Bluetooth compatible 60" television, students can also enjoy a soda, hot chocolate or other snack from the snack bar. In the other designated area, students can compete against one another with the Wii or own gaming system on another Bluetooth compatible 60" television.
A billiard and separate foosball table provide other forms of recreation and a dance floor has also been added. The Halloween dance was held in this space complete with an audio dock so students could plug in their own "appropriate" music source and jam to the beat while enjoying the amazing bonfire outside.
The Burnett Internet Cafe was part of Phase I in the Forging the Future Capital Campaign. The Cafe, combined with Whalen Dining Hall, has become the new social hub of activity on campus and both the high school and postsecondary programs are making full use of the facilty. The Eagles' Nest (school store) will also operate out of the cafe very soon. In fact, anyone interested in purchasing one of the Maplebrook varsity jackets, should contact Karen Gamble at email@example.com.
