C.A.P.S. Program

The Center for the Advancement of Postsecondary Studies (C.A.P.S.) was established in 1986 as an extension of the pre-vocational training which students received in the Maplebrook Academic Program. Over the years it has been carefully groomed as a program based on students successfully completing the goals and objectives designed to prepare them for integration into today's world. The C.A.P.S. student body consists of a balance between young men and women and is reflective of society as a whole. Through small group and individualized instruction, the student will be assisted in reaching his/her academic, social, vocational, and physical potential.

Students arrive at C.A.P.S. with a variety of skill levels and most learn best in settings recognizing their particular learning styles and strengthening their independent living skills. The student body at C.A.P.S. reflects this diversity.  Some C.A.P.S. students pursue collegiate studies while others strive for a vocational certificate in one of the following areas:

  • Preschool/Daycare
  • Business and Office Training
  • Construction Trades
  • Retailing
  • Food Service
  • Horticulture
  • Elder Care/Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Library Aide
  • Teacher Aide/Teacher Assistant
