from the director of boarding school life

Maplebrook School boasts a well-rounded education. Yes, the classroom environment is very important, but learning doesn’t stop after 3:00 PM. We encourage participation on sports teams, in a variety of clubs, and activities such as community service. In any school, every moment is a teaching moment. Our faculty and staff have a unique opportunity to teach independent living skills and help strengthen executive functioning skills in the dormitories where individualized instruction helps solidify these all important skills.
Extracurricular opportunities teach teamwork, the importance of being a part of the school community and most importantly, they are building blocks for good character. We must keep in mind that we are unable to give an individual high self-esteem, but we are able to create an environment that facilitates the opportunities for students to feel better about themselves. Boarding schools like Maplebrook do this very thing. A final, but not the only benefit of an independent school is the chance for each student to develop lifelong friendships.
